About Ayrshire

With maps dating back to the 1200s and buildings from the centuries before, Ayr is a town with a real history.

Add to that a river, harbour that for centuries was the most important on the west coast of Scotland, a racecourse from 1770 and the setting of a seaside resort, you get a town with something for everyone.

To the north of Ayr is Prestwick, famous for golf and its thriving aviation industry, home of Glasgow Prestwick International Airport. Other neighbours include Alloway, known for being linked to Robert Burns.

As the biggest of the Ayshire holiday towns, Ayr is the centre of the Firth of Clyde area, South-West of Glasgow, it looks out on the glorious panorama of the Firth, with the beautiful hills of Arran in the foreground and the Mull of Kintyre to the rear. The wonderful Ayrshire countryside provided the inspiration for some of the finest poems of the National Bard, Robert Burns.

No doubt Ayr is an old town—even the finest historical researchers cant say how old. But in every other respect the Auld Toun is the modern home of a modern-minded community who are aware of the need to keep abreast of the times, not only for their own sakes but for the benefit of the many thousands who come annually to make Ayr their holiday location

Ayr Shopping
This town offers fabulous shopping facilities and includes branches of the main multiple stores and a wide range of individually owned shops. Add an aray of bars and restaurants to cater for all, many serving local produce and the town centre has everything you need for a day out.

Visitors can choose from many outdoor sports including tennis and golf, whilst the town's Leisure Centre, close to Ayr Harbour, is an amazing venue for indoor activities including swimming.
